After a 20 hour surgery, Dr. Curry and his team were able to get a near total resection of the tumor leaving only microscopic remnants of the tumor behind.
When Travis and I talked to Dr. Curry around 5:30 this morning, the plan was for Victoria to stay asleep and immediately go into a second surgery, which would have been a spinal fusion.
However, as she was on her way to the OR, the team huddled up to go over the plan. After talking through several approaches, they decided to put a time out on the fusion. Dr. Curry would like better MRI images to make sure nothing shows up over the next few days that wasn’t showing up during her intra-operative MRI’s.
So, as of now, we are in the PICU. Victoria woke up for a while and had the ENTIRE PICU staff in her room because she was being SO hysterical. (She’s also kind of a legend since she endured such a complicated surgery for that amount of time.) She would accuse certain people of trying to poison her and put her back to sleep. She would ask for their credentials, or she would say things like, “I’d shake your hand, but I have all the stupid tubes in my arms which y’all did to me, etc.” Classic Victoria comments that were so reassuring.
She was in a great deal of pain so they gave her some morphine and she’s finally sleeping again. Dr. Curry and his team will come up with what they believe is the best course of treatment for Victoria over the next few days and then we’ll just take it day by day.
God is hearing all of our prayers for sure!
Much love,
Paige, Travis, Victoria, and Wren
